Dear Campers and Nature Lovers,

As we bid farewell to winter and welcome the beautiful month of March, we’re thrilled to announce that spring has officially sprung at Byrd’s Branch Campground and Country Store! The air is warming, flowers are beginning to bloom, and the sounds of nature are coming back to life. It’s the perfect time to embrace the great outdoors and reconnect with the beauty that surrounds us.

Celebrating the Season of Renewal

Spring is a time of renewal and rejuvenation, and what better way to celebrate than by spending time in nature? Here are some wonderful ways to enjoy the season at Byrd’s Branch Campground and Country Store.

March is the perfect month to lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails as they come alive with vibrant colors and the sweet sounds of nature awakening from its winter slumber. Immerse yourself in the fresh, invigorating air where each step brings new discoveries.

March also marks the return of many migratory birds. As you take your leisurely stroll through the trails, listen for the cheerful calls of returning birds. Grab your binoculars and head out for some birdwatching. You might spot robins, red-winged blackbirds, and even the colorful indigo bunting.

Tips for a Joyful Spring Camping Experience

As you prepare for your spring camping trip, here are a few tips to make the most of your experience:

  • Pack Light Layers: The weather can be unpredictable in March, so bring clothes you can layer to stay comfortable throughout the day.
  • Explore New Trails: With the trails waking up from winter, now is the perfect time to explore new paths. Grab a trail map from the Camp Store!
  • Reconnect with Family: Use this time to bond with family and friends. Plan fun outdoor activities like frisbee, hiking, or a family picnic!

Family Time Around the Campfire and Creek

One of the most cherished experiences at Byrd’s Branch Campground is gathering around the campfire with family and friends. As the sun sets and the stars begin to twinkle above, the warmth of the fire creates the perfect backdrop for storytelling, laughter, and roasting marshmallows for s’mores. The crackling of the fire and the gentle sounds of the nearby creek add to the ambiance, making it an ideal setting for creating lasting memories.

Spend your evenings sharing tales of adventure, playing games, or simply enjoying each other’s company, all while listening to the soothing flow of the creek. These moments spent together around the fire will be the highlights of your spring camping trip!

Pork Nachos

Ingredients:

  • 1 (8-10 oz) bag of tortilla chips
  • 2 cups prepared shredded pulled pork
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion.
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Monterrey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 2-4 Tablespoons BBQ sauce
    • Optional topping:
    • 2-4 Tablespoons of ranch dressing
    • 1 cup of coleslaw
    • 1/4 cup shredded lettuce

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Spread chips in skillet
  • Place pulled pork over chips.
  • Add on the red onion slices.
  • Sprinkle on your cheddar and Monterrey Jack cheese, and drizzle a couple tablespoons (2-4 depending on taste) of BBQ sauce on top.
  • Cook over fire for 5-10minutes until cheese is melted. Add optional toppers and serve immediately.
  • Place a single layer of potatoes on top of the foil. Combine the salt and pepper and sprinkle ⅓ of the seasoning mixture over the potatoes. Top with ⅓ of the cheese and ⅓ of the bacon.
  • Repeat the layers two more times until all the potatoes, cheese, and bacon have been used.

Fold up the sides of the foil (if using a skillet or pan, you may want to cover it with foil to keep the heat in) and pinch the top closed. Place directly onto your charcoal grill or gas grill. Cover the grill, and cook for 10-20 minutes, until potatoes are tender all the way through. Open up the foil and sprinkle with green onions. Serve immediately!
