North Carolina Apple Harvest
The North Carolina Apple Harvest season starts in Mid-August to the end of October. It is a favorite by many, with more than 40 varieties of apples like: Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Rome Beauty, Stayman, Empire, Fiji, Gala, and many more you are bound to find the right apple for you.
Harvesting at the right time is key to getting the best quality apple, but lots of factors make that possible from good rootstocks, to planting in the right area, The management and pest control even bees play an important role in pollinating apples all to create a great Apple Orchard.
Did you know? One Apple Tree can take up to 7yrs. to bear fruit, and North Carolina has 9,000 acres of Apple Orchards, that’s why Apple butter, Ciders and Pies are so popular here!

Cooking at Camp
Crescent Roll Apple DumplingsIngredients
- Large apples (we used Granny Smith), peeled and cored
- 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough (we used Pillsbury Original Crescents)
- 2 sticks of butter
- 1 ½ cups brown sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. cinnamon (or to taste)
- 1 can (12 oz.) 7 Up or Mountain Dew
Directions
- Wash, peel, and cut apples into eight equal slices.
- Unwrap the crescent roll dough and separate the triangles.
- Place one piece of apple on the wider end of each piece of dough and roll it into a croissant.
- Lay tinfoil or Dutch oven liner inside Dutch oven, lightly buttering the bottom.
- In a bowl, mix butter, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla until the mixture is liquefied with no lumps.
- Pour the mixture over the tops and sides of rolls.
- Pour 7 Up (or Mountain Dew) between the rolls (but not on top).
- Bake for 25-45 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown.
- Serve immediately.
