Crater Park Pickleball Elkin, NC

Feb 27, 2023

pickleball elkin ncPickleball was created in 1965 by 3 men (Bill Bell, Joel Pritchard, and Barney McCallum) who found their families sitting around with nothing to do during summer in Bainbridge Island, Washington because they couldn’t find the racket for badminton. They improvised and used a ping-pong paddle, and who knew that was just the beginning of “The Pickleball Game Frenzy” that has grown to an estimate of 3 million people who play in the U.S. and still growing!

The game is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It is played with 2 or 4 players and all you need is a paddle, pickleball and a court. It is an inexpensive, easy to play, social sport, fun for all ages and skill levels. Having fun and being social isn’t the only perk to pickleball, it is less strenuous than tennis and a great way to get some exercise, helps with weight loss, lowering blood pressure, depression and just overall boosts your mood!

The Basics: You hit the pickleball over a net with a paddle to the person on the opposite side of the court and they hit it back. If they miss you get the point. First team to get 11 points wins. For more in-depth details of the rules go to USA Pickleball Official Rulebook and Rules Summary.

You can join a group of players at Crater Park pickleball courts 310 Standard St. Elkin, NC 28621 (Mon-Fri) and if bad weather conditions go to The Elkin Recreation Center 399 Hwy 268 W, Elkin, NC 28621. Please call Mark Campbell 336-782-9313 for times as they may vary.

See you on the court!!
