April at the Campground

Fresh Air, Family Time & Spring Adventures

April is when the campground really starts to come alive. The trees are budding, the birds are busy, and there’s just something about that cool, fresh air that makes everything feel new again.
Whether you’re here for a quiet weekend or making memories with family, April camping has a magic all its own.

Why Spring Camping Is So Special

If you’ve only camped in the heat of summer, you’re missing one of the best-kept secrets:

  • Fewer crowds = more peace and quiet
  • Cooler temps = better sleep and cozier campfires
  • Nature waking up all around you 🌿
  • The perfect time for relaxing walks and slow mornings

It’s the season to unplug, unwind, and breathe a little deeper.

Easter Camping Fun (Simple + Memorable)

If you’re camping around Easter, here are a few easy ways to make it special—no stress required:

  • Hide plastic eggs around your campsite for a quick morning egg hunt
  • Let kids decorate eggs at the picnic table (less mess than at home!)
  • Create an “Easter basket” with campground treats—s’mores supplies, glow sticks, or small toys
  • Do a family scavenger hunt using things found in nature (pinecones, flowers, rocks)

Sometimes the best traditions are the ones you create right at your campsite.

Easy Easter Camping Food Ideas

Keep meals simple but fun:

Campfire Breakfast Scramble
Crack eggs into a foil pan, add sausage, cheese, and veggies. Cook over the fire or grill-easy cleanup!

Cinnamon Roll Skewers
Wrap canned cinnamon rolls around a roasting stick and cook over the fire. Sweet, simple, and a huge hit with kids.

Easter S’mores Upgrade
Swap regular chocolate for peanut butter cups or add sliced strawberries for a fun
twist.

Be Ready for Spring Weather

April can be a little unpredictable—but that’s part of the adventure!

  • Pack layers (mornings and evenings can still be chilly)
  • Bring a rain jacket or poncho
  • Have a simple backup plan (cards, games, books)
  • Don’t let a little rain ruin your trip-it usually passes quickly

Cooking at Camp:

Chicken Caesar Wrap

Chicken Caesar Wrap

Ingredients:

  • Chicken breasts: The first ingredient is chicken. You’ll need 1.5 lbs of chicken breasts to make 4 wraps. That should equal around 3 chicken breasts.
  • Flour: 1 cup of flour will be used to bread the chicken.
  • Salt and pepper: Use 1/2 tsp of salt and pepper (each) for a bit of flavor.
  • Eggs: 2 eggs will help create the breadcrumb crust.
  • Panko breadcrumbs: And for the breadcrumbs, use 2 cups of panko. These are flakier than regular breadcrumbs and create such a delicious texture!
  • Grated parmesan: Next, you will need 1 cup of grated parmesan. This is going to taste delicious in the wraps!
  • Oil: Oil will be used to cook the chicken. You will need 1/4 cup of a neutral oil, meaning vegetable oil, smooth olive oil, or avocado oil. You can use more if needed.
  • Lettuce: Add crunchy lettuce to the warps with 1 large head of romaine, chopped small.
  • Croutons: Croutons are a must! Use 1 cup, divided amongst the wraps.
  • Shredded parmesan: Include shredded (or grated) parmesan, dividing 1 cup across the 4 wraps.
  • Caesar dressing: Finally, add extra flavor with 1/2 cup of Caesar dressing. I used the dressing from this recipe.
  • Wraps: Add the filling to 4 extra large burrito wraps!

Instructions:

  1. Slice chicken in half through the width, like butterflying but cutting all the way through.
  2. Pound each of the 4 chicken pieces into 1/4 inch thick using a meat pounder or rolling pin.
  3. Set up a station in three wide bowls. In the first bowl, mix the flour and salt and pepper. In the second bowl, whisk both eggs. In the third bowl, mix together the panko and parmesan cheese.
  4. Coat each chicken breast evenly in flour on both sides, then dip the chicken breasts into the egg mixture and coat well. After the egg mixture, dip into the breadcrumb mixture and coat very well, pressing into breadcrumbs and covering the whole surface of chicken on both sides. Repeat until all chicken has been coated.
  5. Heat a large saucepan over medium-high heat and add the oil.
  6. Once hot, add two chicken breasts at a time, cooking for 4-5 minutes on each side. Set chicken breasts aside on paper towel lined plate and repeat until all are cooked.
  7. Meanwhile, in a bowl, add lettuce, croutons, parmesan, and Caesar dressing. Toss till combined.
  8. Slice chicken cutlets into bite sized pieces. Add to salad mixture and toss.
  9. In a large wrap, add salad mixture and wrap tightly. Cut in half and serve.
